The current list of loving dogs we have for adoption

Why should you adopt from us when you can go to the animal shelter and get a pet for much cheaper? Because all of our pets have been to the vet several times to insure they are in perfect health. Many of our animals are pulled from animal shelters and need to be dewormed and given medicine. Our pets are all up to date with shots and spayed or neutered (or we give you a certificate to get it done for free). The puppy/dog fee is $150. If you are interested in any dog in particular, please fill out a Dog pre-adoption form about the dog you have in mind. If you have any questions or would like to see the pet, email (info@fayettehumane.org) or call us (770-487-1073) and we will contact you to tell you more about the pet. To see all dogs at once, come to the PETsMART in Fayette Pavilion and/or Peachtree City on Saturday afternoons from Noon-4 p.m. (we do not have a shelter). All pets can be taken home the day you adopt them after you fill out paperwork. Please stop by one of our adoptions or contact us for more information. (Please note that we are not affiliated with the Fayette County Animal Shelter and you must contact them for information on animals at the shelter. The phone number for the shelter is 770-631-7210.) Having pets is proven to lower stress!

Adoption fee includes:
Spay/neuter, microchip w/ registration, up to date shots (all shots if they are old enough), deworming, flea treatment, coupons provided by Petsmart for discounts on great items (some free!), and a DVD on what to do after you bring your new dog home.

Polly

Polly is a young Jack Russell with springs in her feet. She is incredibly energetic and loving and sweet. She's fearful of strangers, but once she knows you, she's a sweet gal. Polly does well with larger dogs, but isn't so good with dogs her own size. She can be very protective of her food when she is with other dogs, so she is best suited being the only dog in a home that is filled with adults and patient teenagers. She is being trained by one of our volunteers in basic obedience commands. No small children, please. She needs a family that can love her and teach her that humans are nothing to be afraid of. Polly is recovering from a shoulder injury, but is looking for the perfect family who will love her unconditionally and be patient with her.

Zena

Zena is a 3 year old shih tzu and Shar pei mix weigh 25lbs. Zena is current on vacs, spayed, microchipped, and heartworm negative and is on heartworm prevention. She is also housebroken and loves people and other dogs. She needs a family with alot of time to give her and maybe even someone interested in agility. Zena will be such a blessing to your family and bring you many happy memories:)

Wendy

Wendy is a little over 1 year old. Her past owner never spent time with her. Because of this she is shy. She gets along with other dogs and cats. Seems to be happier with women. NO KIDS. She is so sweet and loving.

July

July is a female 1-1/2 yr old she was picked up by Animal Control and a few days later gave birth to 8 very cute pups. FCHS rescued the entire family. July has had all shots and has been spayed. She is extremely loving and is looking forward to a forever home just for her. July is heartworm positive and we are treating with Heartguard for 6 months and hope that she will test negative after the six months. She can still go to a new family and we will supply the medication for the next 5 months and pay for the testing in 6 months.

Frankie

This is Frankie and he is a six year old Boston Terrier. Frankie is a sweet boy that was rescued from a puppy mill. He hasn't had such a great life but most defiantly is looking for a happy and healthy new start. Frankie is heartworm negative and has been microchipped, neutered, vacs are current, dewormed and is taking heartworm preventive. Frankie needs to be a only dog because he shows signs of some dog aggression. He loves people and kids and being with you all the time. Will you be the one to offer this guy a chance at the life he should have had all along?

Taylor

Taylor is a beautiful boarder collie mix. 11/2 years of age. UTD on all adult shots, nuetered, microchipped, and is on heartworm and frontline. He is an extremely intellegent dog. Very loving and loyal. He is beginning basic obedience training on 7/21. He is very protective of his family and especially children. He loves all the other dogs in his foster home. He needs long walks and is a perfect walking companion. Fenced yard preferred. He is enrolled in training right now because he was not socialized by his previous owners. Any training classes left will go to his new parents!!!

Aurora

1 1/2 year old 45lb. lab mix. Her picture is not the best because she wouldn't hold still for the camera. She is housebroken and has a very sweet disposition. She loves to just cuddle and sleep with you. Her previous owners found her in a ditch as a young pup with wire around her neck. She had a very deep cut ear to ear and now has a scar if you look closely as a result. She does not like items touching her neck and walks very well on a body harness. She needs a new loving home only due to her previous owner's health concerns.

Louie

Louie is one lucky pooch. He was brought in by a concerned citizen when she saw him as a local stray. He is a basset hound mix that is about 1 yrs old. He gets along great with other dogs, people, and children. Right now his foster parents have him in obedience training to help him transition from being a stray to being a pet. The main focus of his training is walking on a leash. He will need a fenced in yard because like most basset hounds, he likes to follow his nose.

Max

Max is an 11 month old Jack Russell Terrier.. He used to live with a family who had a baby and they just didn't have time to deal with a very active and smart little dog. Max weighs about 20lbis neutered with up-to-d a te on his vaccines, including bordetella and on heartworm medicine. Max is house trained . Max climbs fences and jump over walls so he needs a very tall fenced in yard and supervision when outside playing with you and your family. Max would benefit from basic training who is a sweet dog. Maybe a family with children and another dog for companionship would be nice for all.

Little Girl

Little Girl is a very sweet young lady of about 2 years. She is very affectionate and smart and is housetrained also. Little Girl is currently living with a foster family who found her wandering the streets looking for someone to care for her. She will make a great addition to any dog loving family

Russell

Russell is a 4 month old Australian Shepherd mix. He is current on shots and neutered. He is learning some obedience and when adopted has a free obedience training with his new owner. Very playful and loves everyone and other animals.Needs to have a fenced yard where he can run and play.

Petunia

Petunia needs a forever home, with lots of love and attention. Would prefer that your backyard be fenced in. Petunia is a great dog, very docile, not aggresive, very good with kids and other animals. She loves to play ball, and is totally housebroken.

Dudley

My name is Dudley and I'm a 2 month old German Shepherd Mix. My life didn't start off very well but now that FCHS has rescued me they are getting me all fixed up at the vet and going to find me a loving forever home. I'm a very sweet guy and love to cuddle and be close to my human. Please consider me if you are looking for a loving companion.

Lousious

This is 10-11 week old Lousious who has not had a great life from the beginning. He was found in a black garbage bag when he was one day old. He was found with his nine other siblings but their fate wasn't as lucky as his and his brother Nigel. They fought for their lives with severe lung infections along with having to try and be bottle fed to survive. Then when they were six weeks old they came down with Parvo. They were exposed at the foster's house by a friend who had happened to come by after visiting someone with a sick puppy. The foster's had no idea the friend brought in the deadly virus to the puppies who already had weak immune systems. After fighting another battle for their lives Lousious survived but lost his beloved brother to the disease. This left the foster moms and Lousious heartbroken because Nigel had touched all their hearts and was Lousious best friend and brother. Now Lousious needs a chance at the life that God has planned for him. Will you open your heart to him please

Ruby

This is a 1 1/2 year old Chihuahua named Ruby. Ruby was found by her foster mom while looking at cars in a car lot. The salesman told her the day before he had seen Ruby being thrown from a car into his lot. So that day the foster mom took Ruby home. She is a 8 to 10 pound Chihuahua who is completely housebroken, spayed, microchipped, current on vacs, dewormed and on heartworm prevention. Ruby should be the only dog because she doesn't seem to want to share her time with other dogs:) She is very sweet and seems to love everyone especially older kids. You should know though it does take Ruby at least two days to really warm up to you but she is very much worth the wait.

Max

Max is a Redbone Coon Hound, 2-3 years old. He was owned by a family that did not socialize him or the other dogs in the home and one day they moved out very abruptly and left him behind. Max was underweight and never socialized but has made a lot of progress. He has a good appetite and it has proven useful in training him. So far he can sit and stay and is working on waiting his turn. He is mostly housebroken but has a tendency to mark his territory if left unattended for long periods. Max is being treated for heart worms. He is up to date on all vaccines and will be neutered before being placed in a home. He is a very gentle dog who is anxious to be part of a family. He will make a good pet for a family who has time to spend with him and who has a lot of patience and room in their life for a sensitive fella . He is a climber and can get out of a yard so a tall and secure fenced is required.

I adopted a dog - now what?

YOUR “TO DO” LIST
  • ADVISE YOUR VET AND FORWARD MEDICAL RECORDS

Every dog in our rescue program has a folder containing the dog’s known medical history. This folder is given to you when the adoption is finalized. Give your vet a copy of these records so your vet will send you a reminder when shots and other preventative care is due. You will not need to take your newly adopted dog to visit the vet unless it is a puppy who will need another DHPP or rabies vaccine. FCHS has already provided your adult dog with a preliminary general exam, at least one round of DHPP and rabies vaccinations, bordatella (kennel cough) vaccine, heartworm test and monthly preventative, monthly flea preventative, spay or neuter, and a dental if needed. Adoption fees pay for these important veterinary services.

  • BUY HEARTWORM PREVENTATIVE AND FLEA CONTROL.

We recommend Interceptor for monthly heartworm prevention because it kills whipworms (common in Georgia) and other intestinal worms in addition to heartworms. Before he can provide you with the preventive medication, your vet will need to see the results of your dog’s heartworm blood test. These test results are part of the medical records you received at the adoption. You must continue heartworm prevention each month without fail. If you delay even one month’s treatment, your dog will need another blood test to ensure he has not contracted heartworm. PLEASE TAKE HEARTWORM CONTROL SERIOUSLY. Heartworm is easy and inexpensive to prevent, and unfortunately we are seeing more and more dogs suffering from heartworm due to owner neglect. Heartworm is fatal if not treated, and it is painful. Fleas and ticks can be controlled with a monthly application of Frontline, available at your vet and now, also, at PetSmart.

  • CHECK THE STOOL.

It is not unusual for a dog to experience stomach upset and diarrhea or loose stool the first day or two. If the dog’s stool doesn’t look firm within a week or so, or you see something odd in the stool, you can take in a stool sample for the vet to check. All dogs have been wormed prior to adoption, but sometimes there can be another intestinal parasite or worms can be persistent.

  • PUPPY SHOTS.

If you adopted a puppy, check your medical sheet to see what boosters and additional worming may be needed from your vet.

ENJOY A LONG AND HAPPY LIFE WITH YOUR DOG!
