Ebony Star of the Week                    DOB: Estimated 5/08
Ebony is a very affectionate young lady who gets along well with other cats after an introduction period, but would also be happy as an only kitty.  Ebony's playmates in her foster home include Ophelia, Taz and Billy Joe.  Ebony can’t wait to have a forever home where she can snuggle with her special person and hopefully help them sleep well.  (It is a well known fact that having a cat on the bed with you enhances your quality of sleep!)  Ebony is up to date on vaccinations, has been combo tested and spayed.  Ebony's adoption fee is only $75.  Won't you give this loving baby a forever home?

Jane DOB: 4/3/09            "Come See Me in the Cat Care Room"
Jane is a light " buff" colored, young cat. Her personality is very similar to Sally's.  She is friendly and craves human companionship. She would love to snuggle with you.  Jane is very shy and would be best suited in a quiet, adult only home.  She can adjust to living with other cats but would love to be adopted with her sister, Sally.  Please consider giving Jane a home where she is your cat- a treasured family pet.  Adoption fee is only $75.

Harry DOB: 4/3/09             "Come See Me in the Cat Care Room"
Harry is a very handsome bright orange young male tabby.  He loves the companionship of other cats and is very easy to get along with.  He especially enjoys taking naps with his friend, Kiku.  He's a gentle, quiet cat who enjoys playing with his cat toys.  He's a little shy but quickly warming up to people.  Harry just loves a good neck scratch and will even roll over and let you rub his beautiful white tummy.  Harry has been in foster care since he was born which is way too long.  Please give this wonderful young boy a loving home to grow up in.

Sally

DOB: 4/3/09

Sally is a light  "buff" colored young cat. She is beautiful and has gorgeous fur. She is a gentle soul and patiently waits for that special family to take her home. She gets along well with her siblings and has much love and companionship to offer.  She may not be that cute, little kitten anymore; but she is past the wild play and climbing on anything stage.  She doesn't want to stay another day in our foster care; she wants to go home to your forever family.  Sally is very shy and would be best suited in a quiet, adult only home.  She can adjust to living with other cats but would love to be adopted with her sister, Jane.  Adoption fee is only $75.

Ophelia DOB: 4/08
Ophelia is a a gentle lap kitty who is patient and polite in her foster home and has been waiting her turn for a forever home for some time now.  She is also a very affectionate little lady who loves to play with her foster brothers and sisters, especially Taz, Ebony & Billy Joe.  One of the cutest things about her is that her eyes are almost crossed.  Ophelia would make a great addition to a home with other cats or as the only kitty.  Ophelia's adoption fee is only $75.  Will you give Ophelia a forever home?

Astro DOB: 7/08
Astro is a very soft and sweet DSH male cat with golden-green eyes. He is about 2 years old, UTD on all shots and neutered.  He is quite friendly with other cats and OK with cat friendly dogs.  Astro had a rough start in life.  He  lived in a cage for the first seven months of his life and is quite timid with people because of this.  In his foster home he comes out from under the bed, finds little play toys, plays with other cats, sits on the secure, screened in porch and does his best to enjoy life.  He enjoys a quiet and loving environment, with someone who understands it will take awhile for him to find his place in your life. He does not do well at Pet Smart adoptions; but you can see him at his foster home.  He will likely never be a lap kitty; but he is a gentle kitty and deserves a chance at a forever home.  He would be a good addition to any quiet home with other kitties;  he is not dominant and will do his very best to fit in well.  Please consider giving this guy a chance.

Taz DOB: 6/08
Taz (the Spaz) is a handful of a kitty.  He is very affectionate and playful.  He adjusts quickly to new foster playmates.  Taz is a people person and loves all your attention all the time!!

Pee Wee DOB: 5/08
Pee Wee and his brother Pipsqueak were found in a hoarder situation starving and barely alive when they were just three weeks old.  They have thrived in foster care and have become very loving and playful despite their rough start in life.  Pee Wee & Pipsqueak are close brothers and would prefer to be adopted together.  There is a discount if both are adopted together.

Pipsqueak DOB: 5/08
Pipsqueak and his brother Pee Wee were found in a hoarder situation starving and barely alive when they were just three weeks old.  They have thrived in foster care and have become very loving and playful despite their rough start in life.  Pee Wee and Pipsqueak are close brothers and would prefer to be adopted together.  There is a discount if both are adopted together.

Mara  DOB: 9/08
Mara's picture doesn't do her justice.  Let me tell you why she is special.  Mara is a young cat who was found with her three kittens, Nellie, William and Earl.  Mara must be the best cat mom ever; she raised her three kittens to be the nicest, friendliest cats the F.C.H.S. has.  She too, is extremely friendly and can't wait to have some attention.  She is polite though and not demanding (remember, she is nice and polite!).  She loves scratches under her chin and can't wait to have a wonderful forever home.  Mara is FIV/Leuk negative, has had her vaccinations, and has been spayed.  Please consider this wonderful cat to complete your pet family.

Cotton DOB: Estimated 2/05
Senior for Seniors & Special Needs Kitty!   Cotton is a very special cat. He has lots of love to give and wants a family to share it with.  He'll sit in your lap forever and stare into your eyes while purring and kneading like a big overgrown kitten.  He would do well with any family as he is so sweet and laid back.  His prior owner was an elderly lady who had to move into a nursing home.  Cotton and his housemates were put outside.  He was at a  little disadvantage since he had lost vision in one eye from an old injury.

Cotton tested positive for FIVbut is in great health and will more than likely live to be an old man.  Right now he's approximately 6 years old, but still enjoys chasing feather toys and small moving objects.

Cotton likes to be in charge so he would probably do best in a home as the only cat or with another easy-going kitty.  He adores kittens though and will take care of them just as if he is their mother. He even lets them pretend-nurse if they need to be comforted.  He has been a great asset to his foster Mom and her foster kittens that no longer have their mom.  Cotton is also dog friendly.

The adoption fee has been waived for this special boy who deserves a wonderful forever home.

Billy Joe  DOB: 5/08
Billy Joe is a very confident and affectionate young cat.  She loves to play with her buddies in her foster home, but gets very grumpy when she has to go to Pet Smart on adoption days.  She prefers to hang out with her best friends, Ebony and Ophelia.  Billy Joe would be a great single kitty or as an addition to another nice kitty's home.   If you are looking for a sweet, affectionate adult Calico cat; please fill out a pre-adoption form online for Billy Joe.  Her foster mom will be glad to meet you at Pet Smart at a time of your convenience and introduce you to this great cat.

Annie DOB: Estimated 2/09
Annie was rescued from the "streets" two months ago.  She was covered in fleas, very skinny and very hungry.   Just look at her now!  She loves her foster Mom, but except for one of her foster Mom’s five other female cats, none of them like her.  She tries to play with them, but they don’t play nicely with her!   When her foster Mom is at work, sweet little Annie has to stay in a room by herself.  She likes being an indoor kitty, but needs to find a home where she feels welcome.  Annie will do well in a home with another young kitty or as an only kitty.  She loves affection and one of her favorite spots is on her foster Mom's bed.  She's going to be a little cat, but is gaining weight every day and is quite proud of her shiny coat.  Annie would love to become part of your family and make your home her forever home.  If you adopt this loving little girl, you’ll have a friend for life.

Teenie Weenie DOB: 5/09
Teenie Weenie's mother was a stray cat that happened to live near a local lawyer's office.  Seeing a chance to do a good deed, these lawyers rescued Teenie Weenie and family.  Although she is no longer teenie, she's still a great kitten.  Always active, she loves to play, climb cat trees, and chase the other foster kittens she lives with.  She gets along well with adult cats  and is used to living with a dog.  An ear infection as a younger kitten causes her head to tilt slightly off center, it's as though she is always asking a question. It's very cute and just looking at her makes you giggle.  As a result of this amusing trait, her nickname is "Tipsy".

Phoebe DOB: 9/08
Phoebe is a very sweet young lady that was found living behind a supermarket.  Phoebe loves attention, but is afraid when she’s picked up.  She must have had a bad experience with humans in the past.  Her best friend to play with in her foster home is Mara.  Phoebe would be perfect for a kind person looking for a gentle companion to snuggle with.

Happy DOB: 8/01
Special Needs & Senior for Seniors Cat!   I’m Happy, a stray!  A caring couple recently took me to a veterinarian for an exam.  I received an annual wellness exam, an FVRCP vaccination, a Rabies vaccine, ear mite treatment, Frontline, plus a bath, neutering and a nail trim.   Did I ever get the works!  One more thing.  I tested positive for feline leukemia.   With this condition I can have a good life, but I need a home inside where there are no other cats.  With proper, loving care, I can have a long and happy life.   I have a very gentle personality and love people.  Whoever selects me as their feline will surely have a treasure.  I’ll be grateful to them beyond measure.

Please contact my foster family at (770)253-8188 if you would like to meet me.

Nellie DOB: 4/09
Nellie and her brothers, William and Earl, are some of the nicest cats we have at the F.C.H.S. now.  They all have soft, silky fur.  They are loving, playful and seek out human companionship.  Sweet, little Nellie likes to cuddle up close to her foster mom where she will sleep all night.  She loves to be picked up and has a lot of fun playing with her brothers, William and Earl.  She’s very affectionate, but a little afraid of very small children.  Nellie has patiently waited for a forever home for months.  Could you bring her home to your loving family?  She needs you.

William DOB: 4/09
William is a sweet, young kitten.  He and his siblings, Earl and Nellie, are three of the nicest cats the F.C.H.S. has right now.  He loves to cuddle with his foster mom; but will play for hours with Nellie and Earl before snuggling with them in a big heap for a long nap.  He has patiently waited for months for you to take him home. Please don't let him languish for another week.  He loves human companionship and would be a great pet.

Earl DOB: 4/09

Earl is just a big baby! He likes to sit on his foster mom’s lap whenever she sits down.  He is very much a lap and bed kitty. He and his siblings, Nellie and William, deserve an award for being the nicest, friendliest and having the softest fur of all the Fayette Humane Society's cats!  Earl's fur is a luxurious grey color.  Earl is very happy playing or snuggling with Nellie and William.  Earl patiently waits for a special family to make him their treasured pet. He certainly wants to become a beloved family member. Earl deserves a forever home. Could you find the time this week to meet him?

Two Face DOB: 6/09
Two Face was found all alone hiding in a drain when she was only 6 weeks old.  She had an injury that had severely abscessed, but with good medical care, she's well and happy and ready for her forever home.  Despite her name she has only one personality!  She's an active and playful little girl, but is extremely affectionate and loves to fall asleep in your lap.  She loves other kitties and is used to living with a dog.

Chicken Little DOB: Estimated 6/09
Chicken Little and her littermates were rescued from living in a very dangerous situation under a dumpster behind Home Depot. She is a very sweet and petite little girl, but loves to tussle with her foster sisters, Two Face and Teenie Weenie.  She does well with adult cats and is dog-friendly.  Chicken Little is still a little shy and would be best suited for a quieter home environment where she's hoping to find her forever home.

Marco DOB: Estimated 8/21/09
Marco was rescued from the streets by a kind truck driver; he was very afraid of people and hard to catch. Now, Marco loves to play with his foster family's other cats and dog. He patiently waits in the kitchen, just in case his foster Mom is clumsy and a piece of ham or anything else interesting, falls on the floor. He has learned to trust and accept love. Marco is a beautiful kitten - his fur is sleek and shiny. He really looks like a panther. He will be a loyal companion, just shower him with love.  Marco is neutered and current on his shots.

Twilight DOB: Estimated 5/01/09
Twilight was found with her mother and two siblings in a rural neighborhood when she was about eight weeks old.  She was afraid at first because she had probably never been around people - but she warmed up quickly.  She has gray tiger stripes and the softest fur with pretty green eyes.  She likes other kitties and gets along with anyone new.  Twilight isn't a lap kitty yet, but she loves attention and loves to be petted.  She may become the best lap kitty ever if you'll give her that chance and make her part of your family.

Selena DOB: Est. 3/08/09        "Come See Me in the Cat Care Room"
Selena is a gorgeous medium-haired orange tabby who was found living in the woods when she was a very small kitten.  She was rescued, spayed and given all her shots and now enjoys playing with her kitty friends, Harry and Kiku.  This is an extremely sweet young cat who will likely get along with any cat as she is very tolerant of her crazy foster brother kitty.  She startles easily by sudden movement or loud noises so she would prefer a home without small children.   Selena is incredibly sweet and curious and even talks to her foster mom and sits on the back of her chair while she works.  Selena also loves to play catch with her soft cat toys.  If you have a special home for this very adorable little lady, please give us a call.

Butterfly, Ciara, Stetson and Brut DOB: Estimated 7/09

Butterfly

Good Samaritan Rescues Six Kittens From August Flood!

Butterfly is a petite little Tortie colored kitten.  She is also a legend on the small screen.  She was recently featured on a channel 11 Alive news piece.  Fortunately for us, she doesn't plan on moving to Hollywood quite yet. Instead, she is patiently waiting for her own family.  She loves to play; she sometimes tries to fly!  She'll sit in your lap or on your shoulder and purrrrr.   Butterfly is a very good snuggle buddy and loves warm things like a heating pad or electric blanket.  She also likes computers and is working on her typing skills!

Ciara

Ciara is a tiny kitten with silky black fur.  She was the last of her brothers and sisters to be rescued from the August flooding at the State Farmer's Market.  She spent a long night alone during  the rain.  Thankfully her foster mom came back to look for any more survivors- and there was Ciara!  More recently, she gets her daily exercise by chasing moving toys.  She likes to sit and watch TV too.  She loves warm places and will climb up on the printer where it’s warm to watch her sisters as they type!  Ciara is still a little shy, but will come sit by you when it’s her idea and will climb in bed with you.  She will need a special family who will be patient with her and give her time to become comfortable with them and her new home.

Stetson

Stetson is a big kitten with silky black fur.  He nearly drowned during the August rainstorms. Lucky for him, his foster mom rescued him as he and his siblings were literally swimming for their lives.  He loves to be petted.  (His nickname is Petty.)  He is very boisterous and a great “purrer” when he’s in your lap being petted.  He’s fascinated by the computer screen and watches his sisters and brothers as they play on the keyboard.  Stetson likes to be the center of attention, but you’ll be rewarded 100 times over if you shower him with love - this big sweet cat will be your loyal friend forever.  Stetson also likes his foster family’s  dog.

Brut

Brut, also known as Brutus, is a big, soft black kitten with two white whiskers.  His foster family named him Brut, because he pretends to act like a “brut” with his brother and sisters.  Brut was another kitten rescued from certain death by drowning during the August flooding at the State Farmer's Market.  He is grateful for a life of safety and comfort. He shows his love of life daily.  He plays with the dog, helps on the computer, and likes to watch TV.  Brut is very loving – but also very playful.  He races through the house playing chase with his siblings, but when he’s tired, he makes a great snuggle buddy!

Little Mary DOB: Estimated 7/6/09

Little Mary was discovered with several other kittens in a busy shopping area.  They were dumped and abandoned.  Little Mary and another kitten were very lucky to have been found before any danger could befall them- they were both missing a foot due to a congenital defect.  Little Mary also has a deformity of her remaining rear foot.  Little Mary is a little shy; however, she is a happy and sweet kitten.  She is extremely grateful to be safe and sound in her foster home.  She could only be happier if she was in her forever home.  Do you have room for this special needs kitten?

Blackie and Possum DOB:  Estimated 4/09

Blackie

Possum

Blackie and Possum were born to a stray cat at a busy office complex.  They were rescued and cared for by a kind lady that worked at the complex.  She is unable to keep them though, so now she's looking for their forever home.  They are  tremendously affectionate and just can't get enough attention.  Wherever you are, is where they want to be.  They are still young and enjoy playtime; but otherwise they are relatively calm.  They are both petite little darlings that enjoys snuggling on the couch or bed just as much as playing.  If you need someone to make you feel loved, then Blackie and Possum are the kitties for you.  They love other cats and are used to living with a dog,  but have not been around young kids.

Tigger DOB:  Estimated 5/09

What a bundle of joy this little guy is!  He is a yellow tiger with orange stripes.  I named him Tigger because he likes to bounce around like “Tigger the Tiger.”  He is full of energy and always looking for something new to intrigue him.  Tigger was one of 10 cats and kittens who were left in the woods to fend for themselves when their owners moved out of state.  He is a very cautious kitten at first (he’s only been around women, so he’s very shy around men).  Once you show him he’s safe and loved, he’ll brighten your day with his exuberance!  He’s been neutered and would be a wonderful addition to any loving family.  He would do great with other cats and he gets along well with my Yorkie.

Butterscotch DOB:  Estimated 5/09

What a little sweetheart!  She is a petite young cat with a very sweet and dainty disposition.  Butterscotch was one of 10 cats and kittens who were left in the woods to fend for themselves when their owners moved out of state.  She is a gentle, lovable kitten. She is skittish at first and needs someone that will make her feel safe.  Once she trusts you, you won’t find a better lap kitty.  She has been spayed and is ready for a loving home that will help her forget how lonely and frightening her life was in the woods.  She does great with other cats and also small dogs.

Esther Estimated DOB: 2004
Esther has a record, fortunately though, she has reformed her felonious ways; she just needs a wonderful home to keep her straight.  Esther found herself trying to break into someone’s house recently!  She turned up in an unfamiliar neighborhood-maybe she got lost or perhaps someone abandoned her.  Either way, she didn’t like living outside in the cold and decided she wanted to move inside.  Since the owner of the house is allergic to cats, she ended up coming to us at FHS.  Esther wasn't wearing identification, or a microchip and has not been claimed.  She is a very affectionate lady, who would love nothing more than to have a warm lap to snuggle on during these cold winter evenings.

Dixie Estimated DOB:  2009 "Come See Me in the Cat Care Room"

Dixie, a shy but loving young black cat really needs a loving home. Dixie has been through so much.  As a kitten she had medical issues related to her spay;  currently, she is healthy and issue free.  Now, she has been returned by her "Forever Family".  One of their family developed allergies, and Dixie now finds herself homeless.  She would prefer a new forever home without small children.

Sparkle Estimated DOB: 11/6/09

Sparkle is a  sweet, loving kitten.  She is a beautiful orange and white tabby who purrs happily and just loves to be handled.  Sparkle would be a wonderful addition to any family.  This cute, affectionate, lap kitten fills all the squares for the perfect pet.

Chanel Est. DOB:  4/09        "Come See Me in the Cat Care Room"

Chanel is a beautiful, young cat that finds herself homeless due to death of her owner.  She was loved very much and reciprocated in kind.  She is sweet, affectionate and playful.  She is fine with children and other cats.  She has not been around dogs though. She would be grateful to be a treasured pet again.  She just wants a warm lap to cuddle on and a little affection.  Please consider this cat, it is hard to be thrust into this situation for any animal and she truly is a great young cat.

Grandpa   "Courtesy Listing"                                 DOB:  Unknown

"Grandpa" is a stray cat that was picked up by animal control 2 or 3 months ago.  We are not sure of his age, but he is considered a "senior."  He is a beautiful grey tabby and is extremely sweet and affectionate.  He is neutered, likes other cats and loves  people. Grandpa has been patiently waiting for someone to take him home. If you are interested in Grandpa, please contact the Fayette County Animal Shelter at 770-631-7210.

Ava DOB:  7/09

Ava was found abandoned along a major highway in July of  2009.  She was so young, she had to be bottle fed every two hours. She was nursed back to health and then adopted as a young kitten.  Ava finds herself homeless, again because her "Forever family" moved and did not bring Ava with them.  She is now looking for a new  home. Despite everything, Ava is a terrific kitten,  she is affectionate and playful.  Because she was bottle fed, she really craves human attention- she is a people kitten. She would fit into a home with dogs, other cats and children or she would be a terrific companion in a more sedate home.  Can you give Ava  that loving, forever home?

Salem DOB:  2009

Salem was rescued from Animal Control; they were afraid she was feral and could not be socialized.  Salem's foster family took her in with the belief that this special kitten had the potential to be a great pet, given enough attention.  Salem is her foster mom's  " star pupil" - tamed after a mere two and a half  months of work.  Salem is now fully socialized-she seeks out human contact in her foster home, even from those not in the immediate family circle.  She loves to snuggle on a lap.  Sometimes, she even enjoys a tummy rub.  Her foster family is thrilled to hear her purr with all this handling.  She plays games enthusiastically with her foster "siblings" and humans.  A very gentle and loving soul, she will make a great addition to a family.  She is used to other cats, but has not been around dogs.  Her nickname is TOE/TOE -  she has a single white toe on her rear left foot.  Please email today, if you are interested in meeting Toe-Toe.

Penelope DOB:  2009

Penelope is a beautiful dilute grey and orange, butter cream, Maine Coon mix.  She has the distinctive "Lion's mane" around her face.  Her background is unknown; she truly is a rescue kitty.  Penelope was declawed in her former life, she was also loved because she is a lap cat.  Penelope will even sleep in the bed with her foster family.  She is sweet, affectionate and seeks human attention.  She is a delightful, sensitive companion.

Juliet DOB:  1/1/10

Juliet is a New Years kitten!!  This adorable ball of fluffy fur has a sweet disposition.  She loves to play and then lie on your lap when she's tired.  She would be comfortable in a home with other cats and children.  Because she is so even tempered, she will probably get used to a home with a dog without any problems.  Juliet is a great young kitten.  Do you need her to complete your pet family?

There might be kittens and/or cats available at the adoptions that have not yet been posted to the website.

Survey says, "2 Cats Better Than 1!"

According to an article recently published in CatFancy magazine, 80% of vets agree that cats are social creatures and it is better to have two or more instead of just one.  Just one cat will get lonely and prefers the company of another cat. Some of a cat's bad behavior can be attributed to loneliness. "Two cats are just as easy as one. Not only will they keep each other company, but owning two cats will provide a happier living environment," Veterinary Behaviorist Stefani Schwartz says.
