Piper’s Story:

Piper is an 8 month old teen age kitten, and was turned into Animal Control with a broken back leg.  Animal Control is investigating for possible abuse.  Meanwhile Piper was examined by a vet.  The leg is badly broken – with multiple factures in the bone, not just a clean break.  So the vet recommended two surgeries – the first to put a pin in the leg to let the bone start to heal, and the second surgery to remove the pin and let the bone heal completely.  Meanwhile, the risk is very high that Piper could break the bone again if she was allowed to do normal activates like run and jump, and therefore in order to save the leg, she must be kept in a 3 foot by 4 foot crate for 6 to 8 more weeks.  While it breaks our heart to keep her in this crate, we at the Fayette Humane Society have known of previous cases where the animal was allowed to run too soon, the bone re-broke, and the leg had to amputated.  She has her whole life in front of her to run, but in order to save her leg, we must do this for now.  The vet has done the first surgery already, and in the end of June or early July the vet will do the second surgery (plus the spay).  Piper is very sweet and her foster family opens the cage and rubs her little head on a regular basis, so she knows she is well loved.  That is the only way to cuddle right  now and not risk injuring the leg.  Once she is healthy and ready to be adopted, we will place her with a super sweet family – we want to make sure she gets enough cuddling in the future to make up for the rough time she had in the past and the tough time she is going thru right now.   Click here to donate through Piper’s gofund:  https://www.gofundme.com/fhs_piper_surgery

Lilah helps Vet with PTSD

Lilah sleeps on vetLilah relaxing in her new homeLilah5

Lilah came to FHS because her previous family lost their job and had to move.  She’s sweet and docile.  The FHS was contacted by a charity that places pets with veterens returning from war with PTSD.  Lilah was a perfect candiate – she’s easy going, never skitterish, and loves to snuggle.  The “Pets for Vets” group adopted Lilah, and she now loves her new home.  The family says that she sleeps on the bed between the husband and wife every night, and the Vet says he’s been able to cut down on the anti-anxiety medications.  She jumped in everyone’s lap the first day, and now acts like she has lived her whole life with them.  The love how snuggly she is.  The FHS recognizes that we helped twice as much with this adoption – we placed a homeless cat with a loving family, and we helped a Vet with PTSD.  We doubled the love with one adoption !

Cat Food Needed

Compassionate people who feed colonies of Fayette’s thousands of homeless cats are those who are often least able to afford it.  FHS has cats spayed and neutered and also helps furnish food.

Since we don’t have a physical location, two of our volunteers have graciously agreed to collect donations for us.  Please drop off donations labeled FAYETTE HUMANE SOCIETY at:

Bicycles Unlimited, 266 South Peachtree Pkwy.  It’s in the Braelinn Village Shopping Center next to Kmart in Peachtree City.

Fayette County News, 210 Jeff Davis Place.  It’s behind IHOP in Fayetteville.

Dry cat food is preferred and any size bag would be greatly appreciated.

Sweet Pea

Dear Fayette Humane Society,

When my fiance and I lost our 7 year old rescue cat Lena recently, we decided that we would not be bringing home another pet anytime soon. But as a few days passed, we realized how empty our house was without her. So we started our search for another cat to welcome into our home. We came across a picture of Sweet Pea on your site and she had the cutest little face and her profile said she was very sweet- hence her name. They put us in contact with her foster mom a few days after submitting our application, we decided it was best to meet sweet pea in her foster home since she didn’t do too well at the adoption events. On Thursday 17th we met her for the first time, she was curious about us and the carrier crate we had brought along with us. She let us pet her for a while and even walked right into the crate on her own as if to say- ok, I’m ready to go now! My fiance closed the carrier door, and we were certain that she would soon want out. But as we stood there and just spoke with her foster mom for a few minutes, she didn’t make a peep. We said our goodbyes and carried her to our car. We drove all the way home and she was as calm as can be. Finally we were home, we took the carrier inside and set her down and opened the door- the moment of truth. Sweet pea walked out and just started exploring the entire house, searching for Lena as her scent still lingered in our home. Once she realized there was no other cat but her, she relaxed a little and explored more. When it was time for bed, she followed us into our bedroom and made herself comfortable right in the middle of both of us (where she now permanently sleeps every night). We loved on her and she was just as loving back. She has a very fitting name- she is the sweetest girl. She loves to sit in our lap and make biscuits, she loves her window perch and likes looking out the back door too. She loves to play with her squeaky mouse, hang off the top step of our stairs, and enjoys hiding in boxes & bags. She is a big cuddle bug- loves laying right on top of my fiance’s chest or she is quite content with sitting on my lap as we watch tv together. We fell completely in love with her after just a few days into our 2 week home trial.  We knew we had to make Sweet Pea a part of our family, so we decided to officially adopt her on Saturday 26th.

We are so happy that we found Sweet Pea!
